Default Quick question on Armor

For basic maxed ranger armor, is there any advantage to choosing one set over the next besides the looks of it?
For example, one set does not provide any bonuses that another does not, correct?

No, they are all the same functionally.

In this day and age of Guild Wars, it's purely cosmetic differences.

Back when Guild Wars came out, there were no Insignias and each armor art had its own set of bonuses (for example, what we now know as Templar Armor for Warriors was "Knight's Armor" and had the Knight's Insignia effects built in).

When Factions came out, it had a version of each armor piece with each bonus (glad I missed that part - the crafter menus must've been insanely long!), though this wasn't done retroactively to Prophecies armor (as far as I know).

When Nightfall came out, armor Insignias were introduced, setting up the system we have today where all armor for each profession has identical stats and the user having to buy the prefix bonuses.

Now if only they'd go one step further and make max collector armor worthwhile by allowing it to have Insignias. :P (currently worthless as, even for for new players on their first character, it's easier to obtain crafted max armor - trophy drops are just too rare!)

This isn't true, when I first made my character max armor looked way too expensive and i got my first max armor off collectors.

Trophy drops have been severely reduced due to the loot scaling update. Before that, collector armor was easier to acquire. Now, not so much.

The biggest problem with most collector's armor is that you cant use insignia's on them...
